Shopify Plus & Headless Commerce in Phoenix

Checkout extensibility, Shopify Functions and B2B for Phoenix brands whose complexity lives in shipping rules, dealer pricing and multi-warehouse inventory rather than in the theme.

Delivered remotely for brands across Phoenix and Arizona.

Scale · Phoenix

Why Phoenix brands come to us for this

  • B2B on Shopify for dealer, installer and med-spa accounts on the same catalogue as your DTC front end
  • Shopify Functions writing summer ship-day and cold-pack rules server-side instead of via three stacked apps
  • Freight and dimensional-weight delivery logic for pool, spa, patio and equipment SKUs
  • Multi-location routing across a West Valley 3PL and your own warehouse, with rules you control
  • Honest headless assessment — we build Hydrogen only when the case survives the cost

Most Phoenix brands that outgrow standard Shopify do not outgrow it on design. They outgrow it on logic. A powersports brand needs dealer pricing that differs from consumer pricing on the same SKU. A pool equipment supplier needs freight quoted by dimensional weight and delivery method. A supplement brand shipping out of Deer Valley needs summer ship-day rules the checkout actually enforces.

All of that is Plus territory: Shopify Functions for discount, delivery and payment logic, checkout UI extensions for the trust and choice content that has to live at the last step, and B2B on Shopify for the dealer, distributor and clinic accounts almost every Arizona brand of scale eventually accumulates.

Headless we treat as a claim to be tested, not a default. A Hydrogen build earns its budget when there is a genuine content-and-commerce or configurator case. For most brands here, the performance win they want is available in a well-engineered Liquid theme for a fraction of the ongoing engineering cost, and we will say that out loud in the scoping call.

Where Plus actually pays for itself in Arizona

The pattern repeats across the metro: a Scottsdale aesthetics or supplement brand selling DTC while also supplying med-spas and clinics; a Chandler or Gilbert equipment brand selling consumer and to installers; a powersports company selling online and to dealers across the Southwest. Two price books, two sets of terms, one inventory pool — and it is usually held together by a spreadsheet and a sales rep's inbox. B2B on Shopify collapses that into one store with company profiles, per-company price lists and net terms. On top of it, Functions handle the things Arizona brands actually need: freight bands for oversized pool and patio goods, ship-day gating in the hot months, and volume breaks that mirror how a dealer orders rather than how a consumer does.

Checkout UI extensions for trust content, delivery choice, gifting and post-purchase upsell. Native, upgrade-safe, and no longer dependent on checkout.liquid.

06

ERP, PIM & 3PL Integration

NetSuite, Business Central, Akeneo or a 3PL wired in through a documented middleware layer with retry logic, error alerting and a reconciliation report.

Scoped and quoted for your Phoenix store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Phoenix engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Technical Discovery

We map your systems, order flows and edge cases end to end, then document where data breaks today. Output is an architecture diagram you can hand to any engineer.

02

Solution Design

Native-versus-custom decision for every requirement, with cost and maintenance load attached. Plenty of requests get answered with a $0 native setting.

03

Build in Sprints

Two-week sprints in a dev store with a staged demo at the end of each. You see working software every fortnight, not a status deck.

04

Load & Failure Testing

Peak-traffic simulation, payment-failure paths, partial-sync recovery and a rollback plan. We break it in staging so BFCM doesn't break it live.

05

Launch & Enablement

Phased rollout, monitoring dashboards and training for ops and finance. Every custom component ships with a README and a named owner.

Supplements (Subscription DTC)

~$4.2M/yr, 60% subscription revenue, 22 SKUs, US · Shopify Plus (Recharge, Klaviyo)

Monthly subscription churn hit 9.4% and the cancel flow was a single button on a hosted page nobody had touched in three years. Support processed 340 subscription changes a month by hand because customers could not do it themselves. The named constraint: no forced logins. The brand refused to gate account access behind a password reset, which ruled out every off-the-shelf portal.

Home Goods & Furniture

~$11M/yr, 2,300 SKUs, configurable upholstery, US · Shopify Plus + Hydrogen storefront (Oxygen)

Fabric, leg and size options turned 2,300 SKUs into more than 40,000 variant permutations, and the Liquid theme rendered a configurable PDP in 6.9 seconds on mobile. Collection filtering ran client-side, so 40% of shoppers left before the first product painted. The named constraint: the ERP stayed. It was the single source of truth for stock and lead times and was not up for replacement.

Clients on this work

Reorder time 20 min → 3 min

“We sell wholesale into about 400 accounts and were still taking reorders by email like it was 2009. They built the B2B catalog on Shopify with net-30 terms and per-account price lists, and moved our whole rep team onto it in one week. Average reorder went from roughly 20 minutes of back-and-forth to under three.”

LCP 4.1s → 1.3s

“A Hydrogen build plus a NetSuite sync that our own team had failed at twice. Inventory finally matches between the warehouse and the storefront, which sounds boring and is the most valuable thing anyone has done for us this year. LCP went from 4.1s to 1.3s. The honest part: the first six weeks felt slow and I genuinely wasn't sure we'd picked right — it only clicked once we moved to a standing Thursday call with the engineers instead of account-manager summaries.”

FAQ

Plus & Headless in Phoenix — your questions

For most mid-market Southwest brands it does. Company profiles with multiple buyers, assigned price lists per dealer, quantity breaks, net terms and self-serve reorder cover the majority of the workflow. Where it stops short is engineering-level configure-price-quote. If that is your business we will tell you before you spend anything, not after.

Yes, with Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions on Plus. Delivery methods can be filtered by product, destination and calendar, so a perishable SKU heading to a hot zone in July simply cannot be bought with a Friday ground option. The buyer sees the reason at checkout instead of a support ticket the following week.

Custom rate logic based on dimensional weight, freight class and zone, plus a delivery-options step for curbside or white-glove where you offer it. The pattern that kills conversion here is quoting a flat rate then calling the buyer afterwards to correct it. Quote honestly early and the oversized cart survives.

Almost certainly not. We regularly hold Liquid themes under 2 seconds LCP on mobile, and the ongoing cost of a headless front end is a permanent line item, not a one-off. We build Hydrogen when there is a real content layer or configurator behind the decision. Otherwise we spend that budget on merchandising and testing, which returns more.

Usually not. A well-built Liquid theme hits sub-2s LCP and costs a fraction to run. Headless earns its keep when you need a custom front-end framework, a heavy CMS-driven content layer, or interactive product configuration Liquid cannot serve. We will talk you out of it if the numbers don't hold.

No. Shopify has retired it in favour of checkout extensibility, and anything still running on it is on borrowed time. We migrate custom checkout logic into checkout UI extensions and Functions, which survive platform upgrades instead of blocking them.

For most mid-market brands, yes. Company accounts, per-company price lists, net payment terms and quantity rules cover the majority of wholesale workflows natively. Where it falls short is complex quoting and contract pricing, which we handle with Functions or a light custom app.
