Shopify Agency in Paris, France

France buys differently: its own card scheme, pickup points over doorsteps, instalment payment as standard, and a sale calendar set by decree. We build Shopify stores that respect all four.

Paris runs eight hours ahead of Mountain Time, which leaves roughly two usable hours together — around 4pm to 6pm for you, first thing in the morning for us. Calls go in that window, the rest is written, and anything raised late in your day is normally answered by the time you start the next one.

The market

What selling online in Paris actually looks like

Paris is the commercial centre of two industries that happen to be perfect ecommerce categories: fashion and beauty. That is visible in the geography of the city. The Sentier has been the garment quarter for well over a century and still functions as one, with showrooms and small ateliers sitting on top of each other. The wholesale fashion complexes out in Aubervilliers form the largest concentration of fashion wholesale in Europe, and a great many of the independent labels selling direct online today started by buying or manufacturing through that trade. Saint-Ouen's flea market anchors an antiques and vintage economy that has moved online almost entirely. Roissy-Charles de Gaulle handles more air freight than any other airport in France and among the most in Europe, which is why so much of the beauty and luxury export trade is routed through the region.

The seasonality is unusually rigid and unusually valuable to plan against. France sets national winter and summer sale windows, so discounting is concentrated into two known periods instead of being smeared across the year — which means the rest of the calendar can be run at full margin if you have the retention engine to support it. August is genuinely quiet as the country goes on holiday, and the smart move is to use it for build and testing work rather than to go dark. Christmas behaves much as elsewhere. Underneath all of that sits a merchant base of independent fashion and leather goods makers, niche perfumers and skincare brands, wine and spirits merchants, fine grocers, and vintage dealers — small businesses with a genuine export story and, very often, a storefront that does not tell it.

Verticals

Who we build for in Paris

The categories that dominate Paris’s commerce economy — and what each one needs from a Shopify build.

01

Independent fashion & leather goods

Made-to-order, small runs and provenance storytelling need product pages built around craft detail rather than a grid of thumbnails.

02

Niche perfumery & skincare

Discovery sets and sample-to-full-size flows do the converting, and alcohol-based fragrance carries real air-freight restrictions that belong in the shipping rules.

03

Wine & spirits

Age verification, per-country alcohol import rules and excise handling decide which markets you can actually switch on.

04

Épicerie fine & gourmet food

Shelf life, temperature-controlled dispatch and EU food labelling all sit in structured product data instead of in the description field.

05

Vintage, antiques & one-of-one pieces

Single-quantity inventory, consignment mechanics and second-hand margin-scheme VAT need a store built for unique items, not for restockable SKUs.

Why us, here

What we do differently for Paris brands

French that reads as French

Consumer-facing commercial information for the French market has to be in French, and machine translation fails that test twice — once with the regulator and once with the buyer who can hear it.

Payment and delivery built for France

The domestic card scheme, instalment payment offered where it lifts average order value, and pickup-point delivery presented as a first-class option rather than a footnote under home delivery.

A calendar built around soldes and August

We plan the year against the fixed sale windows and the summer slowdown: full-margin trading and testing in between, build work in the quiet weeks, retention carrying the months in between.

Premium Skincare (DTC)

8-figure DTC brand, ~140 SKUs, US + CA · Shopify Plus (migrated from Magento 2)

Magento 2 cost $9k a month in hosting, extensions and emergency dev before a single feature shipped. Mobile LCP sat at 5.4 seconds and mobile converted at less than half the desktop rate across 68% of sessions. The named constraint: 11,412 indexed URLs and a top-3 organic position on their hero category, so a migration that lost rankings would cost more than the platform ever saved.

~$6M/yr DTC, 900+ SKUs across size and colour variants, US · Shopify Plus

Returns ran at 31% and refund cost consumed the entire paid media margin. One size chart image served 40 different fits, and 62% of add-to-carts started on a collection page that never showed variant availability. The named constraint: no new product photography budget, so every fix had to come out of the existing asset library and the review corpus.

FAQ

Working with us from Paris

No. ConversionEX is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and we serve French clients remotely. We work in English and we will say so up front rather than implying a Parisian team. Paris is eight hours ahead of us, so recurring calls sit in your late afternoon, and we come over to start a project and once or twice a year after that.

Yes, and it is usually the right structure. Shopify Markets lets you run a French market for domestic buyers and an English international market for everyone else, from one catalogue, with correct hreflang so search engines serve the right version. Where a market becomes material — Germany and Spain are the usual first two — a proper localisation of that language pays for itself. Adding six half-translated languages at once does not.

Through a carrier integration that shows a real map of nearby points at checkout, saves the chosen point to the order, and passes it to your fulfilment system so the label prints correctly. The detail that matters is where in checkout the choice appears. Buried below home delivery, it barely gets used; presented as an equal option with its price difference visible, it moves both conversion and your shipping cost per order.

France requires sorting information on packaging and, for many product categories, registration with an approved producer-responsibility scheme before you sell there. It applies to sellers shipping into France as well as to French companies. The registration itself is a legal and administrative task for you and your advisors. Our part is making sure the labelling data, packaging information and shipping rules on the store match what you are actually registered to sell and where.

If your engineering time is going on hosting, module conflicts and patching rather than merchandising, yes. Replatforming is the largest single project we run and it dates back to how this agency started. The risk that actually matters is search equity, not data transfer: URL structures differ, French sites often carry years of accumulated category pages, and the redirect map has to be planned before anyone touches the catalogue.
