Marketplace Management in Paris

France has more genuinely competing marketplaces than any of its neighbours, and not one of them will give you the customer — so we run them for discovery and keep the relationship on your store.

Delivered remotely for brands across Paris and France.

Why Paris brands come to us for this

  • Producer-responsibility identifiers mapped per waste stream — packaging, textiles, furnishings, electricals — before any listing publishes
  • Triman and sorting information carried in the image set and structured data where the marketplace shows it to the buyer
  • Fragrance and alcohol-based products routed by shipping class, so full-size bottles are not sitting in a programme that will not carry them
  • Marketplace deal events and the fixed sale windows planned as one calendar, so the year holds two discount periods rather than four
  • Sponsored campaigns targeted from contribution per unit after commission, fulfilment and the return rate, not from a category ACoS

The French shopper does not funnel into a single marketplace the way an American one does. Amazon.fr is the biggest, but Cdiscount and the Fnac-Darty marketplace both hold real audiences, and in DIY, garden and home improvement ManoMano is where the searches actually start. Rakuten's French marketplace belonged on that list until recently and is closing at the end of 2026, which is a useful reminder that a second shelf is a commercial dependency rather than a permanent fixture. For a Paris brand that means the question is never simply whether to sell on Amazon. It is which one or two of the remaining shelves are worth stocking, on what part of the catalogue, at what price, and how you stop the answer changing every time someone in the business reads an article about a platform.

Then there is the administrative floor, which is higher in France than anywhere else in the EU. France runs the strictest extended producer responsibility regime in Europe, and because the marketplaces themselves carry liability, they enforce it: a unique identifier per waste stream, which for a Paris merchant frequently means packaging, textiles and household furnishings all at once, plus electricals if there is a plug anywhere in the range. Triman sorting information has to appear where the buyer can see it, which on a marketplace means inside the image set and the product data rather than only on the box. None of this is optional and none of it is retroactive — a listing goes down and stays down until the number exists.

The reason we run any of it is that marketplaces are rented shelf space. A buyer who discovers your leather bag on Fnac is Fnac's customer; you get the order, less the commission, and the platform keeps the address and the next purchase. That is a fair trade for reach and a terrible one to depend on. So we treat the marketplace as the introduction and the Shopify store as the relationship — separate pack sizes and bundles so the two channels are not competing for the same order, and only the routes home the platforms genuinely permit. We can hold that line credibly because the owned channel is our other half of the work.

EPR identifiers, fragrance that cannot fly, and a deal calendar fighting the soldes

Three Paris-specific things decide whether this channel makes money. First, the registrations: get the unique identifiers per stream in place before listings publish, because the French marketplaces check them and a textiles or furniture brand that assumed packaging registration covered everything finds out mid-season. Second, fulfilment reality for the categories this city is built on. Alcohol-based fragrance is a regulated shipping class, which limits which fulfilment programmes will take it, restricts air freight and often makes merchant fulfilment the only honest answer for the full-size bottles while discovery sets and solid formats go into the platform network. One-of-one vintage out of Saint-Ouen has a different problem — single-quantity inventory and second-hand margin-scheme VAT do not fit a marketplace built for restockable SKUs, which is why Etsy tends to be the right shelf for that stock and Amazon is not. Third, the calendar. France concentrates discounting into two nationally fixed windows, and the platforms run their own deal events on entirely different dates, so a brand with no plan ends up discounting four times a year instead of twice and trains everybody to wait. We set which channel gets which window in writing before the year starts, and keep your own store the place where the best offer lives.

What Marketplace Channel includes

The same standard of work we run for every client — applied to a Paris brand’s realities.

Full service detail
01

Catalogue & Listing Rebuild

Titles, bullets, backend search terms, variation parentage and category nodes rebuilt across Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, TikTok Shop and Walmart. Suppressions and stranded inventory fixed at the cause, not resubmitted.

02

Brand Registry, A+ & Brand Story

Brand Registry enrolment, A+ and Premium A+ modules, Brand Story and Storefront pages built to each platform's image and copy specs. Produced inside this service because the formats are fixed.

03

Sponsored Products, Brands & Display

Campaigns split by intent and margin band, converting search terms promoted to exact, negatives maintained weekly, and targets set from contribution margin instead of a category average.

04

Fulfilment & Fee Economics

FBA against FBM modelled per SKU on size tier, storage, return rate and reimbursement recovery. Some products should never enter a fulfilment centre, and we name which of yours.

05

TikTok Shop & Creator Seeding

Catalogue sync, listing compliance, sample seeding to affiliates, and live and video commerce, run as a mechanic of this channel rather than as a separate affiliate programme.

06

Channel Strategy & the Route Back

SKU allocation, MAP and pricing alignment, marketplace-only bundles and pack sizes, plus the permitted paths home: package inserts, Brand Registry tools and platform-allowed follow-up.

Scoped and quoted for your Paris store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Paris engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Account & Catalogue Audit

Listing quality, suppressions, buy-box history, variation structure, the fee and returns reports and ninety days of search terms. You get the findings whether you hire us or not.

02

Fix the Listings

Parentage, titles, backend terms, imagery and A+ rebuilt before any spend moves. Advertising a listing that converts badly buys traffic for whoever else is in the carousel.

03

Draw the Channel Lines

Which SKUs sell where, at what price, in what pack size, agreed with you in writing. The marketplace should not be bidding against your own store for the same order.

04

Advertise to Margin

Sponsored campaigns rebuilt by intent and margin band, with ACoS and TACoS targets derived from contribution per unit after referral, fulfilment and return costs.

05

Compound & Route Back

Weekly search-term mining, monthly fee and reimbursement review, and the insert and registry mechanics that give a marketplace buyer a reason to reorder on your site.

FAQ

Marketplace Channel in Paris — your questions

You can, and for a lot of catalogues that is the right call. But France is one of the few European markets where ignoring the second tier costs you real volume: Cdiscount and the Fnac-Darty marketplace both have audiences that do not habitually shop Amazon, and in home improvement categories a specialist platform outperforms it outright. We take the top twenty SKUs by contribution and model each platform's commission, fulfilment and content requirements against them, then recommend one additional shelf rather than four.

Partly, and the answer differs by platform and by concentration, so it has to be checked product by product rather than assumed. In practice the pattern we see is that discovery sets, solid and oil formats and low-alcohol lines move through platform fulfilment without much friction, while full-size eaux de parfum are easier to hold in your own warehouse and ship merchant-fulfilled. That is workable — you lose the fastest delivery badge on part of the range and keep control of a product that the platform would otherwise refuse mid-season.

Not on the ones built for restockable products. Amazon's whole model assumes a catalogue of identical units with a shared identifier, and single-piece inventory fights it constantly. Etsy is the shelf where that trade actually lives, and it handles the photography-led, story-led listing style the category needs. The second-hand margin-scheme VAT treatment is an accounting question for your comptable, but it does affect the pricing you can afford to publish, so we build it into the channel plan rather than around it.

It works because this is written, evidenced work rather than presence work. Listings, catalogue files, campaign changes and fee analysis all move in documents you can read at your own hours, and the alerts that matter — suppression, buy-box loss, a stock-out heading into a deal event — reach us as they happen rather than at a meeting. We share a live window of roughly two hours in your late afternoon for decisions, and we come to Paris to start an engagement rather than promising a team here that does not exist.

It can, and that is the failure mode we manage against rather than pretend away. Marketplaces are rented shelf space: the platform owns the shopper, sets the fees and can change both without asking. We use them for the thing they are genuinely good at, which is putting your product in front of people who have never heard of you, then arrange pack sizes, bundles and pricing so the reorder has a reason to happen on your own store.

Not directly, and treat anyone who promises it as a liability. Amazon does not give sellers the buyer's email address, and mining order reports to build a marketing list breaks their terms. The legitimate routes are package inserts offering registration, warranty or a refill incentive, Brand Registry tools such as Customer Engagement and Brand Tailored Promotions that reach your followers inside Amazon, and Buy with Prime on your own storefront where the economics hold. Slower, and it survives an audit.

Google and Meta buy traffic for a store you control. A marketplace is a sales channel with its own search engine, its own ad auction, its own fulfilment network and its own fee schedule. The reporting never reconciles with your Shopify numbers, the failure modes are suppression and buy-box loss rather than creative fatigue, and nothing means anything until the unit economics are modelled after fees.
