Marketplace Management in Zurich

Switzerland has no Amazon marketplace of its own, so the marketplace question here splits in two — the domestic shelf, and an export channel that begins with a customs declaration.

Delivered remotely for brands across Zurich and Switzerland.

Why Zurich brands come to us for this

  • Galaxus and Digitec listings built from structured supplier data — attributes, dimensions, category nodes — not pasted from your Shopify product page
  • amazon.de opened as an export operation, with EORI, EU VAT registration and German packaging registration in place before stock moves
  • FBA against FBM modelled with the customs leg and an EU returns address included, per SKU rather than per brand
  • A deliberate price ladder across CHF domestic marketplace, EUR amazon.de and your own store, so you stop paying a referral fee to take your own customer
  • German and French listing content and A+ modules produced to platform spec, because these formats are fixed and cannot be repurposed from brand creative

Start with the fact that changes everything else: Amazon has never launched a Swiss marketplace. Swiss shoppers who buy on Amazon are buying on amazon.de and absorbing import handling on the way in, which means a Zurich brand cannot simply list domestically the way a Munich one can. The shelf that actually sits in front of Swiss buyers is Digitec Galaxus, and its merchant programme is not a self-serve signup: they take a limited number of partners, they expect a feed or ERP integration rather than manual listings, and the pricing culture is considerably more transparent than Amazon's.

The export half is a different project entirely. Selling on amazon.de from a Swiss company means putting goods inside the EU, and that is an import before it is a listing: an EORI number, EU VAT registration, packaging and where relevant electronics or battery registrations in Germany, and a decision about who acts as importer of record when a pallet leaves your warehouse for a fulfilment centre in Poland or Bavaria. None of it is exotic, and all of it has to exist before the first unit ships, because Amazon will happily accept a listing while customs holds the stock.

What we are not doing is moving your business onto rented ground. A marketplace buyer belongs to the marketplace — the address, the browsing history and the second purchase stay with the platform, and the fee schedule can be rewritten without asking you. So the channel is run for discovery, and the repeat purchase is engineered back onto the store you own: pack sizes and bundles that differ by channel, a price ladder set deliberately across CHF and EUR, and the routes home the platforms genuinely permit. We can hold both halves together because we build and run the owned side as well.

Local context

A customs border sits between you and your own fulfilment centre

Every operational decision in a Swiss marketplace account has the border in it. Sending inventory to an EU fulfilment centre is an export from Switzerland and an import into the union, so the FBA case has to carry clearance cost, an EU VAT registration and the reality that stock inside the union is difficult to bring back without paying twice. Returns are the part most brands underestimate: an amazon.de return goes to a German address, not to Zurich, which means a returns consolidation arrangement inside the EU or a growing pile of stranded units you cannot see. On the domestic side, Galaxus and Digitec expect structured supplier data — attributes, dimensions, category-correct classification — rather than the marketing copy your Shopify product page runs on, and they publish price history in a way that punishes a brand running a different number on its own store without a reason. That is the pricing conversation we insist on having early: what a franc price on the marketplace does to the franc price on your site, what a euro price on amazon.de does to your German retail partners, and which SKUs simply should not appear on a marketplace at all. For a watch, precision homeware or alpine equipment brand, that last answer is usually longer than expected.

What Marketplace Channel includes

The same standard of work we run for every client — applied to a Zurich brand’s realities.

Full service detail
01

Catalogue & Listing Rebuild

Titles, bullets, backend search terms, variation parentage and category nodes rebuilt across Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, TikTok Shop and Walmart. Suppressions and stranded inventory fixed at the cause, not resubmitted.

02

Brand Registry, A+ & Brand Story

Brand Registry enrolment, A+ and Premium A+ modules, Brand Story and Storefront pages built to each platform's image and copy specs. Produced inside this service because the formats are fixed.

03

Sponsored Products, Brands & Display

Campaigns split by intent and margin band, converting search terms promoted to exact, negatives maintained weekly, and targets set from contribution margin instead of a category average.

04

Fulfilment & Fee Economics

FBA against FBM modelled per SKU on size tier, storage, return rate and reimbursement recovery. Some products should never enter a fulfilment centre, and we name which of yours.

05

TikTok Shop & Creator Seeding

Catalogue sync, listing compliance, sample seeding to affiliates, and live and video commerce, run as a mechanic of this channel rather than as a separate affiliate programme.

06

Channel Strategy & the Route Back

SKU allocation, MAP and pricing alignment, marketplace-only bundles and pack sizes, plus the permitted paths home: package inserts, Brand Registry tools and platform-allowed follow-up.

Scoped and quoted for your Zurich store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Zurich engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Account & Catalogue Audit

Listing quality, suppressions, buy-box history, variation structure, the fee and returns reports and ninety days of search terms. You get the findings whether you hire us or not.

02

Fix the Listings

Parentage, titles, backend terms, imagery and A+ rebuilt before any spend moves. Advertising a listing that converts badly buys traffic for whoever else is in the carousel.

03

Draw the Channel Lines

Which SKUs sell where, at what price, in what pack size, agreed with you in writing. The marketplace should not be bidding against your own store for the same order.

04

Advertise to Margin

Sponsored campaigns rebuilt by intent and margin band, with ACoS and TACoS targets derived from contribution per unit after referral, fulfilment and return costs.

05

Compound & Route Back

Weekly search-term mining, monthly fee and reimbursement review, and the insert and registry mechanics that give a marketplace buyer a reason to reorder on your site.

FAQ

Marketplace Channel in Zurich — your questions

Usually Galaxus, because it reaches the buyers you can already serve without changing anything about your logistics or your tax position — with the caveat that the merchant programme is applied for rather than opened, and acceptance is not automatic. amazon.de is the larger prize and the heavier lift, since it requires stock inside the EU, registrations, and a returns route that ends somewhere other than your warehouse. Doing them in that order also gives us real marketplace data on your catalogue — which SKUs convert on a shelf where you control none of the surrounding page — before you commit capital to an EU inventory position.

An EORI number, VAT registration in the country the stock sits in, a customs clearance with correct HS codes and a named importer of record, and the German packaging and, where the product needs it, electrical or battery registrations. Amazon does not act as importer for you, and a shipment arriving without that paperwork sits at the border while your listing shows as out of stock. We sequence the registrations, model the landed cost per size tier, and only then decide how much of the catalogue belongs in the fulfilment network.

It can, and the way to prevent it is to decide the channel lines in writing before anything goes live. Which SKUs appear on a marketplace, at what price, in what pack size, and which are reserved for wholesale and your own store. Marketplace-exclusive bundles and pack configurations are the usual resolution, because they give you presence without putting an identical unit next to your stockist's shelf price. Brands that skip this conversation tend to find out about the problem from a retailer, not from a report.

The parts that need immediate attention are alert-driven rather than conversation-driven: buy-box loss, listing suppression, stranded inventory, an account health warning. Those run on monitoring with defined thresholds, and the response is a documented fix rather than a meeting. Judgement calls — pricing, budget shifts, whether to open a market — happen in the live window, roughly your late afternoon. ConversionEX has one office and it is in Albuquerque, New Mexico; we have no Swiss entity and would rather state that than imply a presence in Kreis 1.

It can, and that is the failure mode we manage against rather than pretend away. Marketplaces are rented shelf space: the platform owns the shopper, sets the fees and can change both without asking. We use them for the thing they are genuinely good at, which is putting your product in front of people who have never heard of you, then arrange pack sizes, bundles and pricing so the reorder has a reason to happen on your own store.

Not directly, and treat anyone who promises it as a liability. Amazon does not give sellers the buyer's email address, and mining order reports to build a marketing list breaks their terms. The legitimate routes are package inserts offering registration, warranty or a refill incentive, Brand Registry tools such as Customer Engagement and Brand Tailored Promotions that reach your followers inside Amazon, and Buy with Prime on your own storefront where the economics hold. Slower, and it survives an audit.

Google and Meta buy traffic for a store you control. A marketplace is a sales channel with its own search engine, its own ad auction, its own fulfilment network and its own fee schedule. The reporting never reconciles with your Shopify numbers, the failure modes are suppression and buy-box loss rather than creative fatigue, and nothing means anything until the unit economics are modelled after fees.
