Marketplace Management in Berlin

Amazon.de is the largest single retail surface in Europe and none of its shoppers are yours — we run it as the front door and keep the reorder on your own store.

Delivered remotely for brands across Berlin and Germany.

Why Berlin brands come to us for this

  • LUCID, electrical and battery registration numbers verified against every ASIN before a listing publishes, not after a delisting
  • Variation parentage rebuilt so reviews and rank pool on one parent instead of scattering across orphaned colourways
  • FBA against merchant fulfilment decided per SKU — freight-sized bikes stay out, spares and accessories go in for the Prime badge
  • Otto, Zalando and eBay.de assessed as a deliberate second channel rather than listed on because they exist
  • Sponsored Products targets derived from contribution per unit after referral fee, fulfilment and the German return rate

Almost every Berlin brand we audit is already on Amazon.de. Usually it was set up once, by a distributor or an intern, with titles translated out of English and a variation tree that came apart the first time a colourway was added. Around Amazon sits a second tier that matters more in Germany than in most of Europe: Otto runs a curated marketplace with real onboarding rather than an open door, Zalando's partner programme is where German fashion volume actually sits, and eBay.de never lost the position it lost in the United States. Which of those you belong on is a category question with a specific answer, not a matter of ambition.

The part that catches German sellers is that marketplace compliance here is not paperwork, it is a suspension risk. A LUCID packaging number and a licensed dual system are checked by the platforms themselves. Anything with a plug, a driver or a lithium cell — a desktop synth, a studio monitor, an e-cargo bike, the battery in the pannier light you bundle with it — pulls in electrical and battery producer registration on top, and the marketplace will delist first and ask questions afterwards. A Berlin catalogue that spans pro audio and bikes touches three separate registration regimes before it has sold a unit.

Which brings us to the reason the channel exists at all. A shopper who buys your grinder on Amazon.de is Amazon's customer: you get the order minus the referral fee, and Amazon keeps the address, the browsing history and the second purchase. That is a trade worth making for discovery, and a bad trade to build a business on. We run the marketplace to find people who have never heard of you, and we design pack sizes, bundles and the permitted routes home so the repeat purchase happens on the Shopify store you own. We can argue both sides of that honestly because we build and run the owned side too.

Local context

Registration numbers, oversize freight and a second tier worth choosing carefully

Three things shape a Berlin marketplace account. First, registration: packaging under VerpackG, electricals under ElektroG and batteries under the battery law each carry their own number, and the marketplaces verify them rather than trusting you, so we sequence that work before any listing goes live rather than discovering it through a suppression. Second, physics: the categories this city is good at are awkward in a fulfilment centre. Cargo bikes are freight, not parcels, and belong on merchant fulfilment with a two-man delivery partner while the accessories and spares go into FBA to hold the Prime badge on the fast-moving half of the catalogue. Roasted coffee carries a best-before date that Amazon's expiry rules treat far more strictly than your own warehouse does, and a roaster who ships fresh stock into a fulfilment centre on a monthly cadence is buying removal fees. Third, geography: Amazon.de is effectively the Austrian marketplace too, so Austria comes free with a German listing and mostly needs a delivery promise that is honest about the extra day, while Switzerland has no domestic Amazon at all — it is an export shipping decision with customs attached, and it belongs on your own store rather than being bolted onto a German listing. We put the registrations first, the size and shelf-life economics second, and the choice of second marketplace last, because that order is the one that stops money leaking.

Scope

What Marketplace Channel includes

The same standard of work we run for every client — applied to a Berlin brand’s realities.

Full service detail
01

Catalogue & Listing Rebuild

Titles, bullets, backend search terms, variation parentage and category nodes rebuilt across Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, TikTok Shop and Walmart. Suppressions and stranded inventory fixed at the cause, not resubmitted.

02

Brand Registry, A+ & Brand Story

Brand Registry enrolment, A+ and Premium A+ modules, Brand Story and Storefront pages built to each platform's image and copy specs. Produced inside this service because the formats are fixed.

03

Sponsored Products, Brands & Display

Campaigns split by intent and margin band, converting search terms promoted to exact, negatives maintained weekly, and targets set from contribution margin instead of a category average.

04

Fulfilment & Fee Economics

FBA against FBM modelled per SKU on size tier, storage, return rate and reimbursement recovery. Some products should never enter a fulfilment centre, and we name which of yours.

05

TikTok Shop & Creator Seeding

Catalogue sync, listing compliance, sample seeding to affiliates, and live and video commerce, run as a mechanic of this channel rather than as a separate affiliate programme.

06

Channel Strategy & the Route Back

SKU allocation, MAP and pricing alignment, marketplace-only bundles and pack sizes, plus the permitted paths home: package inserts, Brand Registry tools and platform-allowed follow-up.

Scoped and quoted for your Berlin store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Berlin engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Account & Catalogue Audit

Listing quality, suppressions, buy-box history, variation structure, the fee and returns reports and ninety days of search terms. You get the findings whether you hire us or not.

02

Fix the Listings

Parentage, titles, backend terms, imagery and A+ rebuilt before any spend moves. Advertising a listing that converts badly buys traffic for whoever else is in the carousel.

03

Draw the Channel Lines

Which SKUs sell where, at what price, in what pack size, agreed with you in writing. The marketplace should not be bidding against your own store for the same order.

04

Advertise to Margin

Sponsored campaigns rebuilt by intent and margin band, with ACoS and TACoS targets derived from contribution per unit after referral, fulfilment and return costs.

05

Compound & Route Back

Weekly search-term mining, monthly fee and reimbursement review, and the insert and registry mechanics that give a marketplace buyer a reason to reorder on your site.

FAQ

Marketplace Channel in Berlin — your questions

The registrations themselves are yours, made in your company's name with the relevant German register and a licensed dual system, usually via your Steuerberater or a compliance provider. Our job is everything around them: knowing which of your products fall into which regime before the platform tells you, getting the numbers into the right fields across every marketplace account, and keeping the catalogue from listing into a category you are not registered for. Getting this wrong does not produce a warning email, it produces a delisted ASIN in the middle of a trading week.

Often yes, but not for the bikes. The frame is freight and the economics of putting it through a fulfilment centre are poor, so it stays merchant-fulfilled with a proper delivery partner or stays off the marketplace entirely. What Amazon is genuinely good at for a bike brand is the long tail around it — racks, bags, child seats, lights, spare batteries where the shipping class allows. Those pull in buyers who then meet the brand, which is exactly the discovery job the channel should be doing while the bike itself is sold on your store where you can configure it.

Only if your category actually lives there. Zalando's partner programme is worth the operational work for a fashion or footwear label with the margin to absorb a German returns rate that is genuinely high, and it is a poor fit for almost everything else. Otto is curated rather than open, skews toward home, furniture and household categories, and rewards brands that can supply clean structured data. Two marketplaces run properly beats four half-maintained, and the second one should earn its place with a written case rather than a hunch.

Nobody sits staring at it, and any agency claiming otherwise is describing a rota it does not staff. What we do instead is instrument it: suppression, buy-box loss, stock-out and account-health alerts route to us as they fire, and our morning starts as your afternoon does, so an overnight problem is being worked while you are still trading. The two-hour overlap in your late afternoon is where decisions and reviews sit, and the standing weekly covers fee reports, search terms and anything that needs a judgement call rather than a fix.

It can, and that is the failure mode we manage against rather than pretend away. Marketplaces are rented shelf space: the platform owns the shopper, sets the fees and can change both without asking. We use them for the thing they are genuinely good at, which is putting your product in front of people who have never heard of you, then arrange pack sizes, bundles and pricing so the reorder has a reason to happen on your own store.

Not directly, and treat anyone who promises it as a liability. Amazon does not give sellers the buyer's email address, and mining order reports to build a marketing list breaks their terms. The legitimate routes are package inserts offering registration, warranty or a refill incentive, Brand Registry tools such as Customer Engagement and Brand Tailored Promotions that reach your followers inside Amazon, and Buy with Prime on your own storefront where the economics hold. Slower, and it survives an audit.

Google and Meta buy traffic for a store you control. A marketplace is a sales channel with its own search engine, its own ad auction, its own fulfilment network and its own fee schedule. The reporting never reconciles with your Shopify numbers, the failure modes are suppression and buy-box loss rather than creative fatigue, and nothing means anything until the unit economics are modelled after fees.
