Marketplace Management in Madrid

Spanish shoppers reach for a marketplace early in the purchase, and every one of those buyers belongs to the platform — we use the shelf for the first sale and build the second on your store.

Delivered remotely for brands across Madrid and Spain.

Why Madrid brands come to us for this

  • Marketplace-specific pack sizes for heavy goods, so the fee model is designed for rather than absorbed
  • Size conversion built into listing images and A-plus modules, because a marketplace return costs freight both ways plus the unit
  • Canaries, Ceuta and Melilla handled as customs destinations rather than left on a domestic shipping default
  • El Corte Inglés and Miravia assessed as a deliberate second shelf, chosen on category fit and on whether the platform will still be there in two years
  • Reseller pricing and last-season stock brought into a written MAP position before you advertise against your own catalogue

Marketplace habit runs deep in Spain. A Madrid brand competing on Google is already losing half of that results page to Amazon.es and El Corte Inglés, which means the honest question is not whether to be on the marketplace but what part of the catalogue belongs there and at what price. Amazon.es takes the bulk of it. Around it there is a domestic tier with genuine trust attached — El Corte Inglés carries a retail reputation online that no pure marketplace here has bought, and Miravia was built aiming at exactly the beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands this city produces — though Alibaba is now folding it into AliExpress, so anything you build there is being built on a platform in the middle of a restructure. Choosing one of them deliberately is worth more than listing on all of them badly.

Then the physics, which are unusually punishing for Madrid's export categories. Extra virgin olive oil is heavy, liquid and packed in glass, so a fulfilment centre charges you on a weight band that has nothing to do with your margin and a breakage rate that has everything to do with it. Footwear and leather goods run into size conversion, and on a marketplace with frictionless returns an EU-to-UK-or-US sizing ambiguity turns straight into a return rate you pay for twice. Padel equipment sells on specification, which the marketplace is good at, but the annual model cycle means last season's rackets end up on the same shelf as this season's at whatever price a reseller feels like — a pricing problem, not a listing problem.

Underneath all of it is the trade being made. A shopper who buys your oil on Amazon is Amazon's customer; you receive the order less the referral fee, and the platform keeps the address and the reorder. For a consumable that is precisely the wrong place for the relationship to sit, because the whole economics of olive oil, cosmetics or supplements are in the second and fifth purchase. So we run the marketplace as the introduction — the first bottle, the trial size, the format that is designed to be found — and set up pack sizes, bundles and the permitted routes home so the subscription and the case order happen on the Shopify store you own.

Local context

Weight bands, size conversion, and a Spanish shelf that is not only Amazon

Madrid has one real logistical advantage here: national inventory already sits in this city, and the corridor out through Coslada and San Fernando de Henares puts you close to the fulfilment network, so the inbound leg into a marketplace warehouse is short and cheap. Everything else needs modelling before a single SKU is listed. Heavy glass goods have to be reformatted for the channel rather than shipped as they are — a two-bottle marketplace pack behaves entirely differently on fees from the six-bottle case you sell direct, and the case is the one that should stay on your own store anyway. Footwear needs the conversion table built into the images and the A-plus modules rather than left in a size guide nobody opens, because on this channel a return costs you the outbound, the inbound and often the unit. Territory is the other trap: the Canaries sit outside the EU VAT territory, and Ceuta and Melilla outside the customs union as well, so an order to any of them is a customs shipment rather than a domestic one, and a marketplace setting left on default will happily sell you an order you lose money fulfilling. Then the calendar, which is genuinely Spanish: the rebajas, the platform deal events and the gifting run out to Reyes on 6 January all want to be the same promotion, and they should not be. We decide which channel owns which window before the year starts.

Scope

What Marketplace Channel includes

The same standard of work we run for every client — applied to a Madrid brand’s realities.

Full service detail
01

Catalogue & Listing Rebuild

Titles, bullets, backend search terms, variation parentage and category nodes rebuilt across Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, TikTok Shop and Walmart. Suppressions and stranded inventory fixed at the cause, not resubmitted.

02

Brand Registry, A+ & Brand Story

Brand Registry enrolment, A+ and Premium A+ modules, Brand Story and Storefront pages built to each platform's image and copy specs. Produced inside this service because the formats are fixed.

03

Sponsored Products, Brands & Display

Campaigns split by intent and margin band, converting search terms promoted to exact, negatives maintained weekly, and targets set from contribution margin instead of a category average.

04

Fulfilment & Fee Economics

FBA against FBM modelled per SKU on size tier, storage, return rate and reimbursement recovery. Some products should never enter a fulfilment centre, and we name which of yours.

05

TikTok Shop & Creator Seeding

Catalogue sync, listing compliance, sample seeding to affiliates, and live and video commerce, run as a mechanic of this channel rather than as a separate affiliate programme.

06

Channel Strategy & the Route Back

SKU allocation, MAP and pricing alignment, marketplace-only bundles and pack sizes, plus the permitted paths home: package inserts, Brand Registry tools and platform-allowed follow-up.

Scoped and quoted for your Madrid store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Madrid engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Account & Catalogue Audit

Listing quality, suppressions, buy-box history, variation structure, the fee and returns reports and ninety days of search terms. You get the findings whether you hire us or not.

02

Fix the Listings

Parentage, titles, backend terms, imagery and A+ rebuilt before any spend moves. Advertising a listing that converts badly buys traffic for whoever else is in the carousel.

03

Draw the Channel Lines

Which SKUs sell where, at what price, in what pack size, agreed with you in writing. The marketplace should not be bidding against your own store for the same order.

04

Advertise to Margin

Sponsored campaigns rebuilt by intent and margin band, with ACoS and TACoS targets derived from contribution per unit after referral, fulfilment and return costs.

05

Compound & Route Back

Weekly search-term mining, monthly fee and reimbursement review, and the insert and registry mechanics that give a marketplace buyer a reason to reorder on your site.

FAQ

Marketplace Channel in Madrid — your questions

On a six-bottle case shipped through a fulfilment centre, usually not. On a two-bottle format built specifically for the channel, often yes, particularly if it is presented as a trial or gift rather than as a bulk buy. The modelling has to be done per format against the actual weight band, the breakage rate and the referral percentage before you list, and the outcome is frequently that the marketplace gets a deliberately small pack while the case stays on your own store at a better margin. That split is a feature, not a compromise.

It starts as a commercial conversation, not an account setting. Where you have a brand registration you can control the content on the listing even when someone else is selling the units, which stops the worst of the misrepresentation, and you can decide whether to contest the buy box on stock you already sold at wholesale. Beyond that it is a distribution policy question — who is allowed to sell online, at what price, on which platform, agreed in writing with your accounts. Bidding against your own stockists on your own name raises everybody's costs and settles nothing.

Possibly one of them, rarely both at once. El Corte Inglés brings a retail trust that suits gourmet food, cosmetics and home categories, and it expects the presentation standards that come with that. Miravia was built around beauty, fashion and lifestyle and rewards brands with strong visual content and creator activity, but its owner is merging it into AliExpress, so we would want a short commitment and a clear way out before you put catalogue work into it. Either one is a real operational commitment — separate content specs, separate fulfilment terms, separate support queue — so we would rather add one and run it properly than list you on three and watch the catalogue drift out of sync.

Then an alert fires and it is waiting at the top of our day rather than sitting unnoticed until yours ends. We instrument the account for suppressions, buy-box loss, stock-outs and account-health warnings rather than relying on anyone checking a dashboard, and most of what breaks is a data fix rather than a phone call. For anything needing a decision, we share about two hours in your late afternoon, and if a case is going to run across a weekend we would rather tell you on Friday than surprise you on Monday.

It can, and that is the failure mode we manage against rather than pretend away. Marketplaces are rented shelf space: the platform owns the shopper, sets the fees and can change both without asking. We use them for the thing they are genuinely good at, which is putting your product in front of people who have never heard of you, then arrange pack sizes, bundles and pricing so the reorder has a reason to happen on your own store.

Not directly, and treat anyone who promises it as a liability. Amazon does not give sellers the buyer's email address, and mining order reports to build a marketing list breaks their terms. The legitimate routes are package inserts offering registration, warranty or a refill incentive, Brand Registry tools such as Customer Engagement and Brand Tailored Promotions that reach your followers inside Amazon, and Buy with Prime on your own storefront where the economics hold. Slower, and it survives an audit.

Google and Meta buy traffic for a store you control. A marketplace is a sales channel with its own search engine, its own ad auction, its own fulfilment network and its own fee schedule. The reporting never reconciles with your Shopify numbers, the failure modes are suppression and buy-box loss rather than creative fatigue, and nothing means anything until the unit economics are modelled after fees.
