Shopify Store Design & Development in Houston

We build Shopify storefronts for Houston sellers whose customers arrive with a part number, a PO number, or forty minutes between job sites.

Delivered remotely for brands across Houston and Texas.

Build · Houston

Why Houston brands come to us for this

  • Product templates that vary by catalogue: technical SKUs, apparel with width sizing, and consumables all get different page logic
  • Will-call and pickup availability surfaced per location, because a Pasadena buyer will not wait on freight
  • Mobile-first builds tested on real mid-tier Android devices, not just a designer's iPhone on office wifi
  • Storm-season merchandising presets your team can switch on when a Gulf system enters the forecast
  • Bilingual storefront structure ready from build one — Spanish is a first language for a large share of Houston buyers

Design work in Houston has to survive a rough test: a buyer standing in a yard off Beltway 8, phone in one hand, glove in the other, looking for a fitting they can describe by spec but not by name. If your product page opens with a lifestyle video and buries the compatibility table three scrolls down, you lost that order to a counter sale.

So we build the storefront around retrieval first and mood second. Search, filtering and spec presentation get designed before the homepage does. Product templates flex by catalogue type, because a 3/4-inch stainless fitting and a pair of ropers do not deserve the same six sections. And every template is a native Online Store 2.0 section your merchandiser can rearrange without calling us.

The other half of Houston is the consumer side that nobody builds properly: the Heights and Rice Village brands, the Bellaire Boulevard food companies, the Third Ward apparel labels. Same discipline, different surface. Real photography, honest sizing, a checkout that does not fight a mid-range Android on a mobile connection in a metro where the average buyer is not sitting at a desk.

Local context

Building for a metro with no single downtown

Houston sprawls across roughly 600 square miles with no zoning and no single commercial centre, and that shapes buying behaviour more than most agencies realise. Your customers are distributed across Katy, Pasadena, Sugar Land, Spring and The Woodlands, and almost none of them will drive an hour to look at stock. That makes the storefront the showroom — location-aware availability, will-call pickup at your Westchase or Ship Channel counter, and an accurate delivery promise are conversion features here, not logistics footnotes. We also design for the two peaks the city actually runs on: the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in late February and March, and hurricane season from June through November, when a storm forecast can rewrite a week of demand overnight.

The same standard of work we run for every client — applied to a Houston brand’s realities.

Full service detail
01

Conversion-Led UX & Wireframes

Wireframes for home, collection, product, cart and checkout drawn from your own session recordings, site-search logs and support tickets. Not a template library.

02

Custom Online Store 2.0 Theme

A bespoke theme in clean, commented Liquid with modular sections your team can rearrange themselves. Zero dependency on page-builder apps.

03

Merchandising & Navigation System

Collection architecture, filtering, badging and cross-sell rules mapped to how your catalogue actually sells. Bestsellers surface; dead stock stops eating grid space.

04

Speed Budget & Core Web Vitals

Image pipeline, third-party script audit and app cleanup enforced against a hard budget: LCP under 2.5s on 4G mobile, CLS under 0.1, INP under 200ms.

05

Catalogue & Content Load

Products, variants, metafields, collection copy and redirects loaded and QA'd in a dev store before cutover. You review a real store, not a Figma file.

06

Launch, Handover & Documentation

Loom walkthroughs, a written theme guide and 30 days of post-launch fixes included. Your team owns the store from day one.

Scoped and quoted for your Houston store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Houston engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

Sitemap, template inventory and grey-box wireframes for every page type. Signed off before a single pixel gets designed.

03

Design System

Figma component library, type scale and every awkward state: empty cart, sold out, pre-order, bundle, back-in-stock, subscription upsell.

04

Build & QA

Liquid development in a dev store, tested on real devices and against your live app stack. Accessibility checked to WCAG 2.1 AA.

05

Performance Apparel (DTC)

~$6M/yr DTC, 900+ SKUs across size and colour variants, US · Shopify Plus

Returns ran at 31% and refund cost consumed the entire paid media margin. One size chart image served 40 different fits, and 62% of add-to-carts started on a collection page that never showed variant availability. The named constraint: no new product photography budget, so every fix had to come out of the existing asset library and the review corpus.

Home Goods & Furniture

~$11M/yr, 2,300 SKUs, configurable upholstery, US · Shopify Plus + Hydrogen storefront (Oxygen)

Fabric, leg and size options turned 2,300 SKUs into more than 40,000 variant permutations, and the Liquid theme rendered a configurable PDP in 6.9 seconds on mobile. Collection filtering ran client-side, so 40% of shoppers left before the first product painted. The named constraint: the ERP stayed. It was the single source of truth for stock and lead times and was not up for replacement.

Clients on this work

AOV $58 → $79

“Full rebuild in 11 weeks, launched two days before Black Friday, which was an aggressive ask and probably a stupid one on my part. They pushed back hard on three homepage ideas I was attached to and were right about all three. AOV went from $58 to $79, mostly off the bundle builder they put on the product page.”

FAQ

Design & Build in Houston — your questions

Yes, once the data is modelled correctly. Specs belong in structured metafields, not in a description blob, so they can be filtered, compared and indexed. For most Houston industrial sellers that modelling step is the build — the visual design takes less time than getting 4,000 part records into a shape that a search box can actually use.

Eight to twelve weeks for most catalogues. We deliberately do not cut over during the last week of February or the first three weeks of March if your category touches western wear, food or event retail, because Rodeo traffic is too valuable to gamble on a launch. Same rule applies to a named storm in the Gulf.

That is the common Houston case and yes. One catalogue, one inventory, with a public price for card checkout and per-company pricing behind login. It avoids the two-store setup that leaves your team maintaining the same product twice and getting it wrong once.

Only in what we surface on the page. Suburban and industrial-park operations usually have will-call, freight and local delivery options that never make it onto the site, and those are conversion drivers for buyers in Cypress, Sugar Land or Baytown who do not want to pay for shipping on something eleven miles away.

Eight to twelve weeks for most brands, from kickoff to live. A single-catalogue store with clean product data lands closer to eight. Add subscriptions, B2B, or a multi-market rollout and you are looking at fourteen to eighteen. We give you a dated Gantt in week one and update it weekly.

We build on Shopify's Dawn reference theme and replace the sections we need. That gives you Shopify's own performance and accessibility baseline plus a codebase that survives platform updates. Premium themes carry code you will never use and cannot safely delete.

That is the point. Every content block is a native theme section with a schema your merchandiser can configure in the theme editor. You get a written guide and recorded walkthroughs. If you still need us for a homepage change, we built it wrong.
