Why Los Angeles brands come to us for this

  • TikTok Shop run end to end — catalogue sync, listing compliance, affiliate seeding and live commerce scheduled against your drop calendar
  • Creator samples treated as inventory with a cost and a conversion rate, not as product that leaves the building untracked
  • Split catalogue by design: evergreen and carryover on the marketplace, the drop kept exclusive to the store you own
  • Apparel return rates carried into per-style contribution before any Sponsored Products budget is committed
  • Beauty and supplement listings taken through category compliance first, because rejection is the default outcome otherwise

Los Angeles is the one US market where the marketplace conversation does not start with Amazon. It starts with TikTok Shop, because the thing that makes a brand work here — a creator, a hook, a product that demonstrates in nine seconds — is exactly what that platform monetises, and because the affiliate mechanic means other people's audiences can sell for you at a commission you set. It is also the single most seductive way to build a business you do not own. Every one of those buyers is TikTok's. The order data is thin, the relationship is thinner, and the platform can change the commission or the algorithm on a Tuesday.

So we run it deliberately. Catalogue synced and compliant, because listing rejections in beauty and supplements are where most LA brands lose their first month. Sample seeding to affiliates treated as inventory with a cost per unit and a conversion rate attached rather than as free product with a spreadsheet. Live and video commerce scheduled against the drops you already run. And an insert-and-registration path that gives a TikTok buyer a genuine reason to come back through your Shopify store, where they become yours.

Amazon then gets judged on different terms here than in most cities. Apparel and streetwear on a marketplace carries a brand cost that founders in this town feel more acutely than merchants elsewhere, and they are not wrong — a limited drop and an always-on Prime listing are opposite propositions. The version that works is a split catalogue: evergreen basics, refills, accessories and last-season carryover on the marketplace, the drop calendar held exclusively on your own store. Clean beauty and supplements behave differently again, where Amazon is often the largest search engine your category has and worth doing properly.

Local context

The port is an advantage, the drop model is a trap, and returns eat the apparel case

Three things are true about marketplaces from Los Angeles that are not true elsewhere. First, the freight position is genuinely favourable — imported goods land at San Pedro Bay, and the FBA prep and inbound network in the surrounding basin is deeper than anywhere in the country, which shortens the road between a container and a sellable unit and lowers the cost of testing a marketplace at all. Second, the drop model and marketplace ranking are in direct conflict: marketplace search rewards continuous sales velocity, review accumulation and never going out of stock, while a scarcity release does the opposite by design, so putting your drops on Amazon usually produces both a ranking penalty and a brand cost. Third, the apparel return rate. On your own store you set the returns experience; on a marketplace you inherit theirs, and for fit-dependent categories that gap is large enough to move a SKU from profitable to not. We model it per style before we advertise anything, and for a chunk of an LA apparel catalogue the honest recommendation is TikTok Shop and your own store, with Amazon carrying only what genuinely repeats.

Full service detail
01

Catalogue & Listing Rebuild

Titles, bullets, backend search terms, variation parentage and category nodes rebuilt across Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, TikTok Shop and Walmart. Suppressions and stranded inventory fixed at the cause, not resubmitted.

02

Brand Registry, A+ & Brand Story

Brand Registry enrolment, A+ and Premium A+ modules, Brand Story and Storefront pages built to each platform's image and copy specs. Produced inside this service because the formats are fixed.

03

Sponsored Products, Brands & Display

Campaigns split by intent and margin band, converting search terms promoted to exact, negatives maintained weekly, and targets set from contribution margin instead of a category average.

04

Fulfilment & Fee Economics

FBA against FBM modelled per SKU on size tier, storage, return rate and reimbursement recovery. Some products should never enter a fulfilment centre, and we name which of yours.

05

TikTok Shop & Creator Seeding

Catalogue sync, listing compliance, sample seeding to affiliates, and live and video commerce, run as a mechanic of this channel rather than as a separate affiliate programme.

06

Channel Strategy & the Route Back

SKU allocation, MAP and pricing alignment, marketplace-only bundles and pack sizes, plus the permitted paths home: package inserts, Brand Registry tools and platform-allowed follow-up.

Scoped and quoted for your Los Angeles store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Los Angeles engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Account & Catalogue Audit

Listing quality, suppressions, buy-box history, variation structure, the fee and returns reports and ninety days of search terms. You get the findings whether you hire us or not.

02

Fix the Listings

Parentage, titles, backend terms, imagery and A+ rebuilt before any spend moves. Advertising a listing that converts badly buys traffic for whoever else is in the carousel.

03

Draw the Channel Lines

Which SKUs sell where, at what price, in what pack size, agreed with you in writing. The marketplace should not be bidding against your own store for the same order.

04

Advertise to Margin

Sponsored campaigns rebuilt by intent and margin band, with ACoS and TACoS targets derived from contribution per unit after referral, fulfilment and return costs.

05

Compound & Route Back

Weekly search-term mining, monthly fee and reimbursement review, and the insert and registry mechanics that give a marketplace buyer a reason to reorder on your site.

FAQ

Marketplace Channel in Los Angeles — your questions

It can, and the risk is real rather than precious. Scarcity and an always-in-stock Prime listing tell buyers opposite stories, and marketplace search actively punishes the sell-out behaviour your releases depend on. The workable version keeps drops off the marketplace entirely and puts evergreen basics, accessories and carryover there instead. If your catalogue is nothing but limited releases, the honest answer is that Amazon is not your channel and TikTok Shop probably is.

You set a commission rate, creators apply or are invited, samples ship, and a small number of them produce almost all of the revenue. The cost is landed cost of the samples plus commission on what sells, and the failure mode is seeding hundreds of units with no tracking and no follow-up. We run it as a managed programme with sample cost per creator, conversion tracked, and the top performers moved into ongoing relationships. It is a mechanic of this channel, not a separate affiliate service.

It makes testing cheaper rather than making FBA automatically right. Short drayage and a deep local prep network mean less capital tied up in transit and faster correction when a listing needs different packaging or labelling. The FBA against merchant-fulfilled call still comes down to size tier, storage cost and return rate per SKU. Oversized or slow-moving product usually stays out of a fulfilment centre regardless of how close the terminal is.

It works in your favour more than against it. We start an hour ahead of you, which means suppressions, stock alerts and buy-box changes get looked at before your morning rather than during it, and live-commerce scheduling and creator coordination sit inside your working afternoon. On-site visits happen for kickoff and for launches worth being in the room for. Nothing about running Seller Central or TikTok Shop Seller Center requires a Los Angeles address.

It can, and that is the failure mode we manage against rather than pretend away. Marketplaces are rented shelf space: the platform owns the shopper, sets the fees and can change both without asking. We use them for the thing they are genuinely good at, which is putting your product in front of people who have never heard of you, then arrange pack sizes, bundles and pricing so the reorder has a reason to happen on your own store.

Not directly, and treat anyone who promises it as a liability. Amazon does not give sellers the buyer's email address, and mining order reports to build a marketing list breaks their terms. The legitimate routes are package inserts offering registration, warranty or a refill incentive, Brand Registry tools such as Customer Engagement and Brand Tailored Promotions that reach your followers inside Amazon, and Buy with Prime on your own storefront where the economics hold. Slower, and it survives an audit.

Google and Meta buy traffic for a store you control. A marketplace is a sales channel with its own search engine, its own ad auction, its own fulfilment network and its own fee schedule. The reporting never reconciles with your Shopify numbers, the failure modes are suppression and buy-box loss rather than creative fatigue, and nothing means anything until the unit economics are modelled after fees.
