Marketplace Management in Detroit, MI

Parts sell on marketplaces the moment the fitment data is right and stop selling the moment it is not — and none of those buyers are yours to keep unless you plan for it.

Delivered remotely for brands across Detroit and Michigan.

Why Detroit brands come to us for this

  • Vehicle application and interchange data submitted in the marketplace's own format, so fit is confirmed before checkout, not after delivery
  • eBay Motors run as a serious channel where the category warrants it, rather than treated as a leftover
  • Backend search terms carrying OEM numbers, supersessions and common misspellings without stuffing the title
  • Replenishment planned against salt-season and show-season curves so stock is not paying storage in the wrong quarter
  • Amazon.ca and the cross-border listing question assessed on customs and duty reality before it is switched on

Detroit is one of the few markets where the marketplace question has a genuinely different answer for every catalogue on the street. A performance or restoration brand belongs on Amazon and, unusually, on eBay Motors, where parts buyers have been searching by vehicle and part number for two decades and the category never migrated away. A tooling or MRO supplier has a real Amazon Business audience with quantity pricing and tax exemption behaviour that consumer sellers never see. A heritage workwear label sells nationally on Amazon and on video. A machine shop selling engineered components to a purchasing department belongs on none of them, and we will say so.

Wherever it does apply, the data comes before the advertising. Vehicle applications and interchange numbers submitted in the format the marketplace catalogue expects, so compatibility is confirmed on the listing rather than guessed at checkout. Parentage built so sizes and finishes pool their reviews. Backend search terms carrying the OEM numbers, supersessions and misspellings buyers actually type without stuffing them into the title. Get this wrong in a parts catalogue and the damage arrives as returns and one-star reviews, which cost far more to unwind than they did to prevent.

Then the strategic part, which is why we do this alongside the Shopify build rather than instead of it. A marketplace order gives you a sale and a platform's customer. Your own store gives you the fitment history, the build list, the reorder and the email address. So we use the marketplace for the SKUs that win on search and price comparison, keep kits, bundles and anything that needs a real fitment tool on your own site, and use package inserts, warranty registration and the brand tools the platform actually permits to give a first-time buyer a legitimate reason to come to you next time.

Local context

Salt season, storage fees and a border twenty minutes away

Two operational realities shape a Detroit marketplace account. The first is that demand here is violently seasonal in a way that collides with how fulfilment networks charge. Rust repair, undercoating, batteries and cold-weather replacement parts sell hard from November through March; performance and restoration sells into the spring and summer build season and peaks around the August show circuit on Woodward. Stock sent into a fulfilment centre for the wrong half of that calendar sits through months of storage charges and aged-inventory surcharges, quietly turning a profitable SKU into a loss. We plan replenishment against your two demand curves and pull slow stock before the charges land rather than after. The second is the border. Detroit–Windsor is the busiest commercial freight crossing on the US–Canada frontier, and a Michigan brand is often one decision away from selling into Amazon.ca on a unified North American account — genuinely worthwhile for consumables and universal-fit product, and genuinely painful for anything where customs classification, duty and country-of-origin marking on automotive goods have not been thought through first. We check that the paperwork works before the listings go live, not after a shipment is held.

The same standard of work we run for every client — applied to a Detroit brand’s realities.

Full service detail
01

Catalogue & Listing Rebuild

Titles, bullets, backend search terms, variation parentage and category nodes rebuilt across Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, TikTok Shop and Walmart. Suppressions and stranded inventory fixed at the cause, not resubmitted.

02

Brand Registry, A+ & Brand Story

Brand Registry enrolment, A+ and Premium A+ modules, Brand Story and Storefront pages built to each platform's image and copy specs. Produced inside this service because the formats are fixed.

03

Sponsored Products, Brands & Display

Campaigns split by intent and margin band, converting search terms promoted to exact, negatives maintained weekly, and targets set from contribution margin instead of a category average.

04

Fulfilment & Fee Economics

FBA against FBM modelled per SKU on size tier, storage, return rate and reimbursement recovery. Some products should never enter a fulfilment centre, and we name which of yours.

05

TikTok Shop & Creator Seeding

Catalogue sync, listing compliance, sample seeding to affiliates, and live and video commerce, run as a mechanic of this channel rather than as a separate affiliate programme.

06

Channel Strategy & the Route Back

SKU allocation, MAP and pricing alignment, marketplace-only bundles and pack sizes, plus the permitted paths home: package inserts, Brand Registry tools and platform-allowed follow-up.

Scoped and quoted for your Detroit store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Detroit engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Account & Catalogue Audit

Listing quality, suppressions, buy-box history, variation structure, the fee and returns reports and ninety days of search terms. You get the findings whether you hire us or not.

02

Fix the Listings

Parentage, titles, backend terms, imagery and A+ rebuilt before any spend moves. Advertising a listing that converts badly buys traffic for whoever else is in the carousel.

03

Draw the Channel Lines

Which SKUs sell where, at what price, in what pack size, agreed with you in writing. The marketplace should not be bidding against your own store for the same order.

04

Advertise to Margin

Sponsored campaigns rebuilt by intent and margin band, with ACoS and TACoS targets derived from contribution per unit after referral, fulfilment and return costs.

05

Compound & Route Back

Weekly search-term mining, monthly fee and reimbursement review, and the insert and registry mechanics that give a marketplace buyer a reason to reorder on your site.

FAQ

Marketplace Channel in Detroit — your questions

In this category, yes, and it is one of the few where we say that without hedging. Parts buyers have used eBay Motors with a vehicle selector and part-number search for a very long time, used and superseded stock has a natural home there that Amazon handles poorly, and the fee structure often suits low-velocity long-tail items. It earns its place on the strength of your catalogue depth. For a brand with fifty consumer SKUs and no legacy applications, it usually does not.

It changes which one. Trade buyers do use marketplaces, particularly for consumables, abrasives, fasteners and tooling where an Amazon Business account with quantity discounts and tax exemption is faster than raising a purchase order. What does not translate is anything requiring a quote, a lead time or an engineering conversation — that stays on your own site and in your B2B portal. The practical split is usually catalogue items to the marketplace, everything configured or quoted to you.

Often yes, but treat it as an export decision rather than a checkbox. A unified North American seller account makes the listing side straightforward; the parts that catch people out are customs classification, duty treatment, country-of-origin marking and who is acting as importer of record. Consumables and universal-fit product tend to travel well. Heavy or regulated automotive goods need the paperwork settled before a single unit ships, and we would rather delay a launch than have a pallet sitting at the crossing.

The same way the marketplace itself works, which is remotely. ConversionEX has one office and it is in Albuquerque — there is no Michigan team and we are not going to claim one. Practically it means a two-hour offset from Eastern, calls in your afternoon, and case work with seller support that runs asynchronously anyway. The one thing that does need to be physical is product photography and video, and that is either shot on your shop floor by your people to a brief we write, or handled through our creative service.

It can, and that is the failure mode we manage against rather than pretend away. Marketplaces are rented shelf space: the platform owns the shopper, sets the fees and can change both without asking. We use them for the thing they are genuinely good at, which is putting your product in front of people who have never heard of you, then arrange pack sizes, bundles and pricing so the reorder has a reason to happen on your own store.

Not directly, and treat anyone who promises it as a liability. Amazon does not give sellers the buyer's email address, and mining order reports to build a marketing list breaks their terms. The legitimate routes are package inserts offering registration, warranty or a refill incentive, Brand Registry tools such as Customer Engagement and Brand Tailored Promotions that reach your followers inside Amazon, and Buy with Prime on your own storefront where the economics hold. Slower, and it survives an audit.

Google and Meta buy traffic for a store you control. A marketplace is a sales channel with its own search engine, its own ad auction, its own fulfilment network and its own fee schedule. The reporting never reconciles with your Shopify numbers, the failure modes are suppression and buy-box loss rather than creative fatigue, and nothing means anything until the unit economics are modelled after fees.
