Why Dublin brands come to us for this

  • Full URL inventory across google.ie, google.co.uk and google.com, mapped one-to-one before anyone touches DNS
  • EU tax rebuilt properly on the way across, so OSS reporting starts clean instead of inheriting a plugin's guesswork
  • GB treated as an export market from day one rather than carried over as an EU shipping zone
  • Retail till and stock sync reconnected and reconciled in staging for brands with a shop or a market pitch
  • Sixty days of crawl monitoring and 404 alerting after launch, compared against a pre-migration baseline

We built WooCommerce stores for years before we moved to Shopify, which is the main reason we are good at getting brands off them. We know exactly which parts of a Woo store carry hidden logic: the tax plugin someone configured in 2019 and nobody has opened since, the shipping rules written as PHP snippets in the theme functions file, the CSV importer that has been quietly creating duplicate SKUs every Tuesday night. None of that is visible in an admin walkthrough and all of it has to be accounted for before you migrate.

For an Irish brand the tax layer is the part that most often gets underestimated. Your current store is probably charging Irish VAT to everyone, or charging destination rates through a plugin whose rate table has not been updated in two years, or excluding tax entirely for GB orders because someone hard-coded a fix after Brexit. Migrating that is not a data export. It is a rebuild of how the store decides what to charge whom, and it is the right moment to get OSS reporting clean rather than carrying the mess across.

Then the SEO. A Dublin brand's organic footprint is usually spread across google.ie, google.co.uk and google.com, and each of those has its own set of ranking URLs — including the blog posts about Aran stitch patterns or whiskey serving that quietly pull more traffic than half the collections. We pull the full URL inventory from Search Console, Ahrefs and your server logs, map every one of them to a target, and rehearse the migration until the delta report is clean. Only then does DNS change.

The cutover window is narrower here than you think

A migration for an Irish consumer brand has to dodge four things. Showcase in January, when press and wholesale traffic spikes for a week. St Patrick's in March, when diaspora search demand for Irish goods jumps and paid costs jump with it. The October-to-Christmas gifting run, which is untouchable. And, for anyone with a physical shop in the Liberties, Dún Laoghaire or a market pitch, the retail till and inventory sync that has to be reconnected and reconciled against real stock before the store goes live. That leaves late spring and midsummer as the sensible windows. We rehearse the cutover as a timed runbook with named owners and a documented rollback, run it at your lowest-traffic hour — which for a brand selling into the US is not Irish midnight — and then monitor crawl coverage and organic revenue daily for sixty days.

Scope

What Migrate to Shopify includes

The same standard of work we run for every client — applied to a Dublin brand’s realities.

Full service detail
01

Migration Audit & Data Map

Field-by-field mapping of products, variants, customers, orders, blogs and metafields from source to Shopify, with a documented plan for everything that has no equivalent.

02

Full URL Inventory & Redirect Map

Every indexed URL pulled from Search Console, Ahrefs and server logs, then mapped one-to-one. Anything without a target gets a decision, not a homepage redirect.

03

Catalogue Cleanup

Deduplication, variant restructuring, image renaming and metafield normalisation. Most brands cut 15-30% of their SKU count in this step and lose nothing.

04

Dry-Run Migrations

At least two full rehearsals into a staging store with an automated delta report on record counts, prices, inventory and customer tags before anyone approves the real one.

05

Integration Rebuild

ERP, 3PL, ESP, reviews, loyalty, subscriptions and tax reconnected and tested against real orders in staging. Nothing gets reconnected on launch night.

06

Post-Launch SEO Watch

Sixty days of daily crawl monitoring, index coverage tracking and 404 alerting, with a weekly report comparing organic sessions and revenue against the pre-migration baseline.

Scoped and quoted for your Dublin store

We do not work off a rate card. Every Dublin engagement starts with a fixed statement of work — named deliverables, named dates, one number — written after we have looked at your store, not before. If a smaller first step would serve you better, we will say so.

How it runs

From kickoff to results

01

Audit & Feasibility

We inventory your data, integrations, custom logic and organic footprint, then quantify the risk in each. You get a fixed scope and a timeline before committing.

02

Data Mapping & Cleanup

Source-to-target mapping for every field, plus catalogue hygiene work. This is the least glamorous phase and the one that decides whether the project succeeds.

03

Build & Rehearse

Theme build runs in parallel with repeated dry-run migrations. Each rehearsal produces a delta report and a shorter list of exceptions than the last.

04

Cutover

A rehearsed runbook with named owners, timed steps, a freeze window and a documented rollback. Executed at your lowest-traffic hour, not on a Friday.

05

Stabilise & Monitor

Sixty days of crawl monitoring, redirect verification and revenue comparison. We stay until organic is at or above where it started.

Premium Skincare (DTC)

8-figure DTC brand, ~140 SKUs, US + CA · Shopify Plus (migrated from Magento 2)

Magento 2 cost $9k a month in hosting, extensions and emergency dev before a single feature shipped. Mobile LCP sat at 5.4 seconds and mobile converted at less than half the desktop rate across 68% of sessions. The named constraint: 11,412 indexed URLs and a top-3 organic position on their hero category, so a migration that lost rankings would cost more than the platform ever saved.

B2B Wholesale (Janitorial & Packaging Supply)

~$18M/yr wholesale, 6,400 SKUs, 900 trade accounts, US · Shopify Plus with B2B on Shopify (migrated from a custom .NET portal)

Ninety-one percent of orders arrived by phone, email or fax and were rekeyed into the ERP by four full-time staff. Order-entry errors ran at 3.8%, and every one of them meant a redelivery and a credit note. The named constraint: 900 accounts on 47 negotiated price lists with net-30 and net-60 terms. No account could ever see another's pricing, and nothing could break during the fiscal year-end freeze.

Organic back to level in 5 weeks

“Magento to Shopify Plus with 14,000 SKUs and a subscription base we could not afford to break. We took the usual dip for about three weeks and organic was back level by week five — that was the entire ballgame for me. One honest gripe: discovery ran three weeks past the SOW and I had to push to get the revised timeline in writing. Once the build actually started they hit every single date.”

FAQ

Migrate to Shopify in Dublin — your questions

It gets rebuilt, not migrated. Shopify handles destination tax natively per market, so the plugin's rate table, its exemptions and whatever manual overrides accumulated around it all get replaced by a configuration we document. We reconcile the new setup against a sample of your historical orders before launch, so you can see that a Spanish order, a GB order and a US order each charge what they should.

Not if the redirect work is done properly, and Irish domestic rankings are usually the easiest to hold because the URL set is small and stable. The riskier group is long-tail content ranking with US and UK searchers, which is often the larger traffic source for an Irish heritage brand and the one nobody inventories. Expect two to four weeks of recrawl noise, then recovery.

No, and usually you should not. A .ie domain carries real trust with Irish and, increasingly, with diaspora buyers looking for the genuine article. If your revenue is majority US you may want a .com as the primary with .ie routed to the Irish market, but that is a positioning decision we make with data from your Search Console, not a rule.

Order history comes across as historical records with line items, fulfilment status and notes intact, which matters if you handle returns or engraving reorders. Password hashes cannot transfer between platforms, so customers set a new password on first login — we cover that with a pre-launch email sequence so it lands as expected rather than as a support wave the morning after cutover.

Not if the redirect work is done properly. We map every indexed URL one-to-one before cutover and monitor index coverage daily for sixty days after. Expect a two to four week dip while Google recrawls, then recovery. Brands that skip the URL inventory are the ones that lose rankings permanently.

Ten to sixteen weeks for a mid-market catalogue. Magento 2 with heavy customisation, B2B pricing or an ERP dependency runs sixteen to twenty-four. The catalogue cleanup phase drives the timeline far more than the theme build does.

Subscription contracts migrate to Recharge or Shopify Subscriptions with billing dates, cadence and discounts preserved. We time the cutover between billing cycles and run a reconciliation on the first post-launch charge run. Churn in the first cycle is the metric we watch hardest.
